Uber Technologies has appointed Rebecca Tinucci as global head of sustainability, soon to be overseeing the ride-hailing company's plan to be a zero-emission platform.
Rebecca comes to Uber from Tesla where she was Senior Director for charging infrastructure. Prior to that, she was CEO and co-founder of Plugless Wireless Charging. Starting September 16, she will report to Andrew Macdonald who is head of Uber's mobility business.
Uber intends to completely electrify its vehicle fleet by 2040 with initial investments of some US$800 million through 2025, reported Reuters.
In related news, Uber Technologies is planning to team up with BYD to put 100,000 electric vehicles onto the ride-hailing company’s platform. Although it is a major deal between American and Chinese companies, the business does not include the Uber fleet in the United States, the companies said in a release.
