China’s automakers are rapidly expanding into Brazil, turning the country into their strategic gateway to the Americas. With over 72 million vehicles on the road and more than 2.5 million annual sales, Brazil offers scale, demand, and manufacturing capacity unmatched in South America.
Five major Chinese brands—BYD, GWM, Chery (CAOA Chery), GAC Motor, and Geely (including Zeekr and Polestar)—are accelerating investments in local production, electrification, and dealership networks.
BYD is converting Ford’s former Camaçari plant into a massive EV and hybrid hub, making Brazil its largest market outside China.
GWM is investing heavily to produce hybrid and electric SUVs and pickups tailored to Brazilian flex‑fuel realities. CAOA Chery continues expanding its hybrid lineup with strong nationwide distribution. GAC Motor is entering through phased local assembly before scaling to full manufacturing. Geely is pushing a multibrand strategy, combining affordable BEVs with premium electric offerings.
Together, these companies are reshaping Brazil’s automotive landscape, speeding up electrification, strengthening industrial capacity, and positioning China as a dominant force in South America’s mobility future.
